YEE FINISHES THIRD IN FIRST CROSS COUNTRY RACE OF THE SEASON

VICTORIA – Competing in her first cross country race of the season, Regan Yee (South Hazelton, B.C.) finished third overall to lead Trinity Western's women's cross country team at the UVIC Invitational Saturday at Beacon Hill Park.

Yee, who was held out of the first race of the year after a long outdoor season on the track, crossed the line in 28:31.68 over eight kilometres. The race was the Spartans first look at the course that will host this year's U SPORTS championships in November.

Beyond Yee, the Spartans put five athletes in the top 14, with Mirelle Martens (Grande Prairie, Alta.) finishing eighth, Joanna Williams (Campbell River, B.C.) 10th, Jouen Chang (Langley, B.C.) 11th and Bailey Haugan (Fort St. John, B.C.) 14th.

The race marked Haugan's first competition in a Spartans uniform, as she missed TWU's first race of the year due to injury.
