YEE CAPTURES FIRST PLACE AT WESTERN WASHINGTON CLASSIC

BELLINGHAM, Washington – Trinity Western's Regan Yee (South Hazelton, B.C.) won her second race of the year in the state of Washington, as the fourth-year Spartan finished first at the 43rd Western Washington Classic at Lake Padden.

Amidst heavy rain and windy conditions, Yee finished the six kilometre race in 21:24.9 to carry on the Spartans winning tradition on the women's side at the Western Washington Classic. Former Spartan Sarah Inglis (Falkirk, Scotland) had finished first in each of the previous three years. Earlier this year, Yee finished first in the open race at the University of Washington's Sundodger Invitational.

With Yee leading the way, the Spartans women finished second as a team. The University of Alaska Anchorage (NCAA Div. II) was the only team to beat TWU.

Following Yee for the Spartans was Lisa Brooking (Orilia, Ont.), who finished third overall in 21:39.0. Mirelle Martens (Grande Prairie, Alta.) was ninth in 22:04.9, while Joanna Williams (Campbell River, B.C.) was 34th in 23:02.8 and Meg Harradine (Langley, B.C.) was 39th in 23:10.0.

The Spartans will now prepare for the BC Championships Oct. 29 in Nanaimo, B.C. The CIS national championships, which also act as the Canada West championships, are Nov. 12 in Quebec City.
