THREE-TIME DEFENDING CONFERENCE CHAMPIONS OPEN 2016 SEASON

THREE-TIME DEFENDING CONFERENCE CHAMPIONS OPEN 2016 SEASON

LANGLEY, British Columbia – The Trinity Western women's cross country team has won the Canada West championship in each of the last three years and captured the conference's individual title in each of the last four years, and there's no reason to believe the run won't continue this year.

While the graduation of last year's CIS champion Sarah Inglis (Falkirk, Scotland) leaves a sizable void to fill, the rest of the last year's CIS silver medal-winning team is back and set to carry on TWU's recently built tradition of women's cross country success.

With Inglis gone, the Spartans will look to the likes of Regan Yee (South Hazelton, B.C.), Lisa Brooking (Orillia, Ont.) and Mirelle Martens (Grande Prairie, Alta.) to lead the way. All three were CIS All-Canadians last year, with each of them finishing amongst the top 11 in the country. This year, it's not inconceivable to imagine they will all improve on last year's results with each of them having a shot at the individual conference title.

Beyond TWU's top three, the Spartans will look particularly to fifth-years Meg Harradine (Langley) and Hannah Ryan (Seven Sisters Falls, Man.) and second-year Joanna Williams (Campbell River, B.C.) to give the team valuable depth.

QUOTES
Endurance Director Mark Bomba said: "We'll be solid across the board. Obviously losing Sarah Inglis leaves a hole, but having said that I think most of our team will be a lot better than last year. I think our three leading girls will really help compensate for the loss of Sarah. Without a doubt, the girls who were our fifth, sixth and seventh runners last year are way better and have progressed tremendously. I think we'll be competitive and should be able to make a run at a podium finish at nationals."
