LANGLEY, B.C. – The Trinity Western women’s volleyball team begins its best-of-three Canada West quarter-final series Friday night in Edmonton against the University of Alberta Pandas.

THE WEEKEND STORY
• The Spartans kick off their Canada West playoff campaign this Friday night in Edmonton against the Pandas, after finishing their regular season last weekend with two wins over Thompson Rivers.
• The Spartans and Pandas both finished the regular season with a 15-9 record, however, the Pandas won the tiebreaker (sets won divided by sets lost) for home-court advantage in the quarter-finals.
• Alberta sits at No. 8 in the U SPORTS Top 10 this week and come into the weekend with a six-game winning streak.
• This is the first time in 13 years the Spartans have not hosted a Canada West quarter-final series.
• For the third week in a row, TWU earned honourable mention in the national coaches’ poll.
• Katie Devaney (Port Coquitlam, B.C.) finished the year with a conference best 1.56 blocks per set at 1.56, and came in fifth for hitting percentage at .268
• Avery Heppell (Langley) finished second in the conference for blocks per set, at 1.38
• Alberta comes in fourth in team hitting percentage, at .214. TWU is fifth, at .196
• The last time these two teams played was Nov. 24-25 in Langley, where TWU won both games.
• With four Canada West schools earning qualification for the national tournament, the winner of the quarter-final series will automatically advance to the U SPORTS championship, held at Laval University on Mar 16-18.
• The Spartans 2016-17 Canada West quarter-final round was played against Mount Royal, where they won in two games.
• The winner of this game advances to the semifinal series Mar. 1-4, against the winner of the Calgary and Mount Royal quarter-final series.
