THE WEEKEND STORY
• TWU, who sits at 13-9 on the season, looks to get back on its feet, after dropping both games against UBC last weekend, losing in five and four sets respectively.
• The Spartans come into the weekend tied with Alberta for fourth place in the conference standings. The top four teams in Canada West will host a quarter-final series. Alberta is on the road against Brandon. If teams have the same record at the end of the season, the tiebreaker is based on sets won divided by sets lost.
• With a 7-15 record this season, TRU has already been eliminated from playoff contention. The WolfPack is coming off a weekend in which it lost both games to No. 1 UBC Okanagan.
• TWU’s Katie Devaney (Port Coquitlam, B.C.) and Avery Heppell (Langley) continue to lead the conference with blocks per set at 1.57 and 1.38. Devaney became the all-time career leader for blocks in the Canada West conference last weekend, with 513 total blocks.
• The Spartans Hilary Howe (Calgary) is 10th in Canada West in kills per set with 3.36 and fifth-year libero Rachel Flink (Surrey, B.C.) sits seventh for digs per set at 3.48.
• Thompson Rivers comes in the top of four in the conference in three statistical categories this week. Yevgeniya Nyukhalova is third for kills per set at 3.78, Kendra Finch is fourth in digs per set at 3.85, and Mikayla Funk in fourth in service aces per set, at 0.52.
• TWU comes in fifth in the conference with hitting percentage at .193 and TRU follows close behind with .178.
• Both teams enter the weekend on a four-match losing streak.
