RICHMOND - It was fifth-year pentathlete Jordyn Piercy (Victoria, B.C.) who led the Spartan charge alongside Kenny Blackman Jr. (Surrey, B.C.) on Saturday at the Harry Jerome Indoor Games. Held at the Richmond Olympic Oval, Piercy competed in the 60m hurdles, shot put, and high jump, collecting personal bests in the latter two events with a throw of 8.84m and a jump of 1.50m.
Blackman Jr. finished the 60m race in first place with a season's best time of 6.92, with teammates Praise Olatoke (Glasgow, Scotland) and Ben Tjernagel (New Westminster, B.C.) not far behind, finishing third and fourth respectively.
On the distance side, Tyler Dejong (Langley) captured a second place finish in the 1000m in a time of 2:33.82 while first-year Luke Snyder (Ludington, Michigan) won the men's 300m race in 36.83.
Heptathletes Christ Weiss (West Vancouver, B.C.) and Dominic Luccock (Delta, B.C.) competed in hurdles, shot put and high jump, with Weiss also capturing a shot put personal best with 10.74m and Luccock throwing 10.28m.
TWU will send athletes to both Kamloops and Seattle next weekend, competing in the Gary Reed Indoor Invitational as well as the Dempsey Indoor at the University of Washington.
