SEATTLE – Trinity Western's Mirelle Martens (Grande Prairie, Alta.), who won Canada West bronze in the 3000m last year, ran her first 3000m of the season, crossing the line in 9:51.21 (51st) to help lead the Spartans Saturday at the UW Invitational at Dempsey Indoor.
On the men's side, David Boyd (Victoria) broke the Spartans men's pole vault record for the second week in a row, as he cleared 5.02m to finish sixth overall.
Already, the U SPORTS pole vault leader, Boyd bettered the TWU all-time mark and his own person record by one centimetre after setting the record last weekend when he cleared 5.01m.
On the track, Ben Tjernagel (Coquitlam, B.C.) put together a season's best in the 60m with a time of 6.97 to finish 15th. Also in the 60m, Rachel Jerome (Ladysmith, B.C.) had a season's best 7.96 to finish 29th overall.
The Spartans will compete in the Harry Jerome Indoor Classic Feb. 2nd at the Richmond Olympic Oval.
