DISTANCE RUNNERS COMPETE IN SEATTLE, POLE VAULTERS IN LANGLEY

LANGLEY, B.C. – Trinity Western’s men’s and women’s middle distance runners will travel to Seattle this weekend to compete in the University of Washington Invitational, while the Spartans pole vaulters wil host the Spartan Pole Vault Open Saturday in the David E. Enarson Gym.

THE WEEKEND STORY
MEN’S TRACK AND FIELD
• Spartans fourth-year Caleb De Jong (Winnipeg) and third-year Nick Colyn (Langley) are both set to compete in the mile and the 3000m this weekend. De Jong is currently ranked fourth in Canada West with a 3000m time of 8:20.30, while Colyn is sixth in the conference in the 1500m rankings, after clocking a season-opening mile time of 4:13.13.
• TWU’s James Lam (Langley) will run in the mile for the second time in three weeks at the University of Washington, after he posted a time of 4:10.75 at the UW Preview, which has him ranked third in Canada West in the 1500m distance.
• Levi Neufeld (Winnipeg) and Adam Marshall (Langley) will also race in the mile, while Tyler De Jong (Langley) and Marshall are also scheduled to race in the 800m.
• In the pole vault pit, David Boyd (Victoria) enters the Spartan Pole Vault Open ranked second in Canada West after clearing 4.75m last weekend. Nathan Dunford (Bellingham, Wash.) is fourth in the conference (4.61m), while Giovanni Hernandez (Tepic, Mexico) (4.60m) and Maxime Léveillé (4.45m) are fifth and seventh in Canada West.

WOMEN’S TRACK AND FIELD
• Regan Yee (South Hazelton, B.C.), the silver medalist from last year’s U SPORTS 3000m and the 2017 Canada West cross country champion, is set to make her season debut this weekend, competing in the 3000m.
• Mirelle Martens (Grand Prairie, Alta.) ranks fifth in Canada West in the 1500m with a converted time of 4:44.51 and will run in the mile for the second time in three weeks. She posted a time of 5:08.60 in her season-opening mile. Joanna Williams (Campbell River, B.C.) will compete in both the mile and the 3000m.
• With a personal best jump of 3.90m last weekend, Spartan pole vaulter Madison Evans (Calgary) comes into the weekend having already earned herself an automatic qualification for the national championships in March. She is currently ranked fifth in the U SPORTS rankings.

LAST TIME AT THE UW INVITATIONAL – 2017
• Regan Yee (South Hazelton, B.C.) earned an automatic qualification to the U SPORTS national championships in the 1500m after posting a mile time of 4:35.43.
• Declan White earned a U SPORTS automatic qualifying standard after finishing 13th in the 3000m run with a time of 8:06.39.
