ADELEY LEADS SPARTANS WITH FIFTH PLACE FINISH IN TRIPLE JUMP

PULLMAN, Wash. – Trinity Western's Mowa Adeleye (Calgary) led the Spartans women's track and field team with a fifth-place finish in triple jump, earning a mark of 11.65m Friday at the Washington State University's Cougar Indoor.

On the men's side, star second-year athletes Denzel Brown (Port Coquitlam, B.C.) and Maxime Léveillé (Shefford, Que.) each broke Spartan records, with Brown earning a record-setting mark of 14.79m in triple jump and Léveillé clearing a TWU best-ever 4.90m in pole vault.

With their performances, both Brown and Léveillé also earned automatic qualification for the U SPORTS championships.

After coming within three centimetres setting the record in his season-opening meet, Brown took the record on his first jump of the competition Friday. He passes former teammate Aaron Postma, who had held the record at 14.44m.

Léveillé, who had a previous personal best of 4.65m, set the mark on his second attempt at 4.90m to pass teammate Nathan Dunford (Bellingham, Wash.), who held the record at 4.85m. Dunford, along with teammate David Boyd (Victoria), finished tied for second in the competition after clearing 4.75m.

On the track, the Spartans men's 4x800m team, which featured Adam Marshall (Langley), Levi Neufeld (Winnipeg), James Lam (Langley) and Tyler de Jong (Langley) clocked a time of 7:50.07 to finish first in the event.
