SEATTLE – Trinity Western put together a strong showing in the first competition of the 2018 track and field season, with a variety of impressive opening day performances Saturday at the University of Washington's Indoor Preview at Dempsey Indoor.
On the track, Mirelle Martens (Grande Prairie, Alta.) led the TWU way in the mile, clocking a time of 5:08.60 to finish 13th overall. Following her was Mikaela Smart (Maple Ridge, B.C.), who put down a time of 5:10.08, which was more than a 19-second improvement from her season-opening mile at last year's UW Indoor Preview (5:29.97).
In the 60m hurdles, Mowa Adeleye (Calgary) started the season with a personal best time of 8.89 to finish 19th in the preliminaries. Adeleye also cleared 1.60m in high jump and earned a mark of 11.30m in triple jump.
Pole Vaulter Madison Evans (Calgary) had her best-ever season-opening clearance, as she went over 3.76m to finish 10th.
TWU travels to Washington State University to compete in the WSU Open Jan. 19-20.
