FIRST-YEAR ADELEYE FINISHES FOURTH IN PENATHLON AT GOLDEN BEAR OPEN

EDMONTON – Competing in her first ever university-level pentathlon, first-year Spartan Mowa Adeleye (Calgary) finished fourth at the 2017 Golden Bear Open with 2,921 points Friday at the University of Alberta's Universiade Pavillion.

Adeleye was followed by TWU's Sophie Pauls (Vancouver), who finished fifth with 2,598 points, and Jordyn Piercy (Victoria, B.C.), who was sixth with 2,159 points despite a "no height" in high jump.

Adeleye's best result was in high jump, where she cleared 1.59m and collected 724 points.

Like Adeleye, the competition also marked the first time Piercy has represented the Spartans in a pentathlon.

Last year, Pauls won a Canada West bronze medal in the pentathlon.
