U SPORTS TOP 10 | WSOC RANKED NO. 1, MSOC NO. 8, MXC NO. 10

LANGLEY, British Columbia – Trinity Western’s women’s soccer team moved back up to No. 1 in the U SPORTS Top 10, while the Spartans men’s soccer team jumped up one spot to No. 8 and the men’s cross country team slotted in at No. 10.

Coming off wins against then No. 9 Alberta and Mount Royal, the women’s soccer team (11-1-0) retuned to the top of the national rankings. TWU had been No. 1 for two weeks earlier in the year (Sept. 11 and Sept. 18), but had been ranked third in each of the last two weeks. TWU finishes its regular season this weekend when they travel to play UBC Friday and Victoria Saturday.

The Spartans men’s soccer team (8-2-4) was 1-1 this past weekend, beating Victoria 2-1 before losing 3-2 against No. 1 UBC. TWU travels to play Thompson Rivers this Wednesday at 3 p.m. (PT) in the Spartans regular season finale. The game was originally scheduled for Aug. 26, but was postponed due to smoke.

The men’s country team competed in the UVIC Vikes Invitational, with Nick Colyn (Langley) and Caleb de Jong (Winnipeg) finishing first and second respectively. The team will now prepare for the BC Championships Oct. 27 in Abbotsford, B.C.

New this season, U SPORTS is implementing the ELO Rating System for the calculation of its weekly national rankings for soccer. Powered by RankR, ELO’s unique algorithm blends a statistical calculation with customized variables that is adaptable across a range of sports.

The cross country rankings are still based on coaches’ votes.
