LANGLEY, British Columbia – Trinity Western’s women’s basketball team will open its 2018-19 regular season on home court (Oct. 26-27), as the Spartans host UBC Okanagan looking to build off last year’s historically successful campaign. The Canada West schedule was announced Thursday.

Coming off a best-ever 16-4 regular season and a fourth-place finish in the Canada West playoffs, the Spartans have been on the rise in recent years and will be aiming to take yet another step forward this season.

Following their season-opening weekend with the Heat, the Spartans will travel to play Regina to take on a Cougars side that is both the defending Canada West champions and last year’s U SPORTS bronze medallists. The last time the Spartans played Regina was in 2016-17, when TWU lost to the Cougars in a Canada West Quarter-Final series.

The Spartans will then return home to host Mount Royal Nov. 9-10, which will mark the first time the Calgary-based Cougars have played at the Langley Events Centre since the 2012-13 season.

The Spartans will finish the fall semester with road trips to UNBC and Victoria.

The second semester is highlighted by a series with local rival UBC at home Jan. 11-12 and the traditional home-and-home series with Fraser Valley, which will see TWU travel to Abbotsford, B.C. Feb. 1 before returning to the LEC the following night.

TWU opens the second semester at home against Winnipeg, while the Spartans two out-of-province road trips in the spring has them taking on Manitoba and Lethbridge.

With an unbalanced Canada West schedule, the Spartans will not see any of last year’s playoff opponents – Alberta, Saskatchewan and Calgary – during this year’s regular season.
