NO. 9-RANKED SPARTANS HOST PANDAS IN CANADA WEST QUARTER-FINALS

LANGLEY, B.C. – The No. 9-ranked Trinity Western’s women’s basketball team will host the Alberta Pandas in a best-of-three quarter-final series, starting Thursday at the Langley Events Centre.

THE WEEKEND STORY
• The Spartans will make history this Thursday, as they will host a Canada West quarter-final series for the first time ever.
• TWU is coming off a bye weekend, which they earned by finishing the regular season in the top four in Canada West with a 16-4 record.
• Alberta, who posted an 11-9 regular season record, earned its way into the quarter-finals by beating Manitoba 81-72 in a single elimination play-in game in Edmonton last weekend.
• TWU swept Thompson Rivers in the final weekend of the regular season and are riding a four-game winning streak into the playoffs.
• The Spartans are looking to build off last year’s playoff success, when they earned their first ever playoff series win, beating Brandon on home court in a best-of-three play-in series. TWU then lost to Regina on the road in the Canada West quarter-finals.
• The Spartans last saw Alberta in the first two games of the regular season, when they split in Edmonton.
• Alberta’s Emma Kary (Calgary) led her team with 26 points to beat the Bisons last weekend.
• Fourth-year Spartan Tessa Ratzlaff (Abbotsford, B.C.) finished the regular season third in Canada West in scoring, averaging 18.4 points per game.
• Fifth-year Kayla Gordon (Prince George, B.C.), who finished her regular season career as the Spartans all-time leading scorer (1,164 points), led TWU with 8.7 rebounds per game to go with her 13.8 points per game.
