SPARTANS LOOKING FOR TO MAKE HISTORY AT U SPORTS CHAMPIONSHIPS

LANGLEY, British Columbia –  It may be a tall task, but the Trinity Western men's cross country team is aiming to make program history this weekend as the group looks for a top five finish at the U Sports national championships, while also taking a shot at winning its first ever Canada West title.

RACE TIME: 10:40 a.m. (PT)

While a top three finish and a conference championship seemed like a very reasonable possibility at the beginning of the year, a couple of late-season injuries, including the loss of Levi Neufeld (Winnipeg), has tempered expectations.

That being said, the Spartans leading pair of Declan White (South Surrey, B.C.) and Joel De Schiffart (Nanaimo, B.C.) will still be Top 10 contenders come Saturday's race and add to that an in-form Caleb De Jong (Winnipeg), who looked particularly good in an eighth-place finish at the provincial championships two weeks ago, and Nick Colyn (Langley), and TWU has a bonafide top four.

Following that, the key for the Spartans will be their depth, which features the Langley trio of James Lam, Tyler de Jong and Adam Marshall. If one of those three can shine on the big stage, the Spartans will indeed be looking at making program history, either with a top five finish or, better yet, knocking off six-time defending Canada West champion Victoria for the conference title.
