WHITE FINISHES SECOND, DE SCHIFFART SIXTH TO LEAD SPARTANS AT PROVINCIALS

NANAIMO, British Columbia – Trinity Western's Declan White (South Surrey, B.C.) finished second at the B.C. Championships to lead a Spartans contingent that put three athletes in the top 10 and eight in the top 20 Saturday afternoon.

White crossed the line in 22:31 over eight kilometres and was flanked in the results table by a pair of former Canadian champions. The Spartans star middle distance runner was bettered by 2013 national champion Luc Bruchet by just one second, but was five seconds clear of 2014 Canadian champion Chris Winter.

Following White was Joel De Schiffart (Nanaimo, B.C.), who finished sixth in 22:54 in what was a hometown race for the fourth-year Spartan.

The Spartans top five runners finished within a minute of each other as Levi Neufeld (Winnipeg) was 10th in 23:16, Caleb De Jong (Winnipeg) was 12th in 23:20 and second amongst junior athletes and Blair Johnston (White Rock, B.C.) was 13th in 23:29.

The No. 4 ranked Spartans will now prepare to compete in the CIS national championships Nov. 14 in Guelph, Ont.
