JOHNSTON RETURNS TO FORM TO FINISH THIRD AT SUNDODGER

SEATTLE – Trinity Western's Blair Johnston (White Rock, B.C.) made a triumphant return to the upper echelon of university cross country racing as the once young prodigy, who has battled health issues for the last few years, stated his arrival back on the scene with a third place finish at the University of Washington Sundodger Open Saturday at Lincoln Park.

Johnston, who finished 26th overall last year, shaved more than a minute and a half off his 2014 time to cross the line this year in 24:14.09 over eight kilometres. His time on Saturday was a Sundodger personal record, bettering his 2012 time of 25:07.73.

The fifth-year Spartan led a strong Spartans contingent that cruised to the team title in the Open. The Spartans finished with 47 points to top the field. Simon Fraser's 95 was second while UBC was seventh overall with 217 points.

Not far behind Johnston, was Declan White (South Surrey, B.C.), who was sixth, Joel De Schiffart (Nanaimo, B.C.), who was eighth, Caleb de Jong (Winnipeg, Man.), who was 14th, and Levi Neufeld (Winnipeg), who was 22nd.

First-year Nick Colyn (Langley, B.C.) was 41st, Adam Marshall (Langley) was 74th, James Lam (Langley) was 85th, Tyler DeJong (Langley) was 103rd and Jordan Gin (Surrey, B.C.) was 183rd.

The Spartans will now prepare for the Western Washington Classic in Bellingham, Wash. on Oct. 8 at East Lake Padden Park.
