NO. 2 SPARTANS TAKE ON NO. 1 BOBCATS FOR CW GOLD

LANGLEY, B.C. – Trinity Western University men's volleyball team will play for the Canada West title tonight in Brandon (5 p.m. PT), as the Spartans look to earn their fourth straight conference championship against the No. 1-ranked Brandon Bobcats. Tonight's final also marks the eighth straight year TWU has played in the Canada West championship match.

THE WEEKEND STORY
• The Spartans are coming off a semifinal series victory against Thompson Rivers University, with TWU taking two matches on home court (3-1 W, 3-0 W)
• Brandon, who have only two losses all season, ousted the Calgary Dinos and Mount Royal Cougars on their road to the CW gold medal game.
• All four previous post-season meetings between Brandon and TWU have been single-game features. The teams have never played in a playoff series.
• TWU is 3-1 all-time against the Bobcats in the playoffs.
• The only other time they met in a CW final was in 2012-13 when Brandon won in four sets.
• TWU did beat Brandon in the final of the 2011 U SPORTS championship, with the Spartans winning on home court.
• TWU will look to Eric Loeppky (Steinbach, Man.) for offensive firepower as he finished the regular season first in CW in hitting percentage (.374) and service aces per set (0.58).
• Leading the defensive side will be fourth-year Aaron Boettcher (Surrey, B.C.) who had eight blocks against TRU, matching the TWU record for blocks in a three-set game.
• First-year Brodie Hofer (Langley) has been impressive in the playoffs, hitting a CW-leaing .360 while averaging 2.63 kills per set.
• Brandon will look to senior setter Reece Dixon (Sherwood Park, Alta.) to guide the offense as he finished the regular season atop CW in assists per set with 11.15. He's averaging a conference-leading 10.65 in the playoffs.
• Robin Baghdady has led Brandon's offence in the playoffs with 3.76 kills per set.
• The Bobcats swept TWU during the regular season winning six straight sets
• Both teams will represent their respective schools in the U SPORTS Championship (Mar. 15-17) hosted by Université Laval.
