KAMLOOPS, British Columbia – The three-time defending Canada West champion Trinity Western men's volleyball team opened its preseason schedule with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 27-25) win over Thompson Rivers Friday.
Coming off a U SPORTS silver-medal winning performance in 2017-18, the Spartans got things rolling with a strong opener, beating a tidy WolfPack opponent in the minimum.
The Spartans and WolfPack meet again Saturday at 6 p.m. (PT).
TWU Head Coach Ben Josephson
"I was pleased with the result. I really didn't know what we were going to see tonight, so I was quite pleased with many aspects. And I'm really excited about the notes we made on the aspects we want to work on next week. One of priorities over the last two weeks was defence and I thought that was one of the better defensive performances we've seen from our program in a number of years. The guys have really bought into that style of play and it was a lot of fun for everybody and fun for me to watch.
"I think the WolfPack are going to be really strong this year, so kicking off the season with a win against a good team is fun. But kicking off the season by watching our team's application of preparation is what pleased me the most."
