TWO-TIME DEFENDING U SPORTS CHAMPIONS UNVEIL 2017-18 SCHEDULE

LANGLEY, British Columbia – The back-to-back U SPORTS and Canada West champion Trinity Western men’s volleyball team released its 2017-18 Canada West regular season schedule. The Spartans open the year in Saskatoon (Oct. 20-21) before returning to the Langley Events Centre to host UBC Okanagan in their home-opener Oct. 27-18.

SCHEDULE HIGHLIGHTS
•    The always thrilling rivalry weekend between TWU and Alberta will take place in Langley this year, with the Bears coming to the LEC Nov. 24-25. The weekend series will be a rematch of the 2017 U SPORTS gold medal game, which the Spartans won on Alberta’s home court.
•    TWU opens the year on the road against Saskatchewan. The Huskies were one of just three teams to beat the Spartans last year and the only team to do so on TWU’s home court.
•    The Spartans open their home schedule against a UBCO. TWU is 12-0 all-time in the regular season against the Heat.
•    A rematch of last year’s Canada West final that saw TWU beat Manitoba on the Bisons home court will take place Jan. 12-13 in Winnipeg.
•    TWU will play a home and home series with UBC Feb. 9-10, with the Spartans hosting Friday before travelling to Vancouver for Saturday’s contest.
•    This season marks a significant change to the CW volleyball scene, as the number of playoff teams will rise from seven to eight, with best-of-three quarter-finals and semifinals then leading to a single-game championship.
•    The conference eliminated the CW Final Four tournament in favour of a one-game championship hosted by the highest remaining seed through a vote of the membership earlier this year.
•    If Canada West has at least three berths to nationals, the higher team to have lost in the semifinals will host the bronze medal game.
