LANGLEY, British Columbia – The defending national champion Trinity Western men's volleyball team got their second win of the 2017 preseason with a 3-0 (26-24, 25-16, 25-13) win over Thompson Rivers Saturday at the Langley Events Centre.
Trinity Western had difficulty with their serve in the first set, but once they were able to find their end line game the Spartans took control and finished with a solid straight sets win.
Head Coach Ben Josephson
On the first set
"When you miss nine serves in a set you do not have much room for error and that is why the first set was so close. You need to play perfect to overcome the serving errors."
On the match as a whole
I think we are a lot cleaner offensively than what I was expecting. We feel that one of our great strengths will be our reception and tonight it held up really well. Which is an upgrade over last year's team.
The block defense and transition that we had going on was awesome. As was our side out play. Our middle play was significantly better than expected, and we had high expectations to start. And all of the outsides played well and Eric, was just Eric.
The Spartans will now head out on their eastern Canada swing. Beginning on September 29, with three matches at Laval in Quebec City.
