WINNIPEG – Trinity Western's Chris Weiss (West Vancouver, B.C.) finished fifth in the heptathlon with a personal best total of 4,595 points to lead the Spartans men's contingent at the U SPORTS Championships Friday at the James Daly Fieldhouse.
Weiss's previous best was 4,572, which he compiled in a silver-medal performance at the Canada West championships two weeks ago.
Weiss was one of three Spartans to earn top five finishes on the second day of competition at the national meet.
On the women's side, Grace Konrad (Edmonton) capped an impressive season with a record-setting performance in the 300m, breaking her own Spartans record with a time of 38.96 en route to an eventual fifth-place finish.
Konrad had previously set the TWU record at 39.38 while winning gold at the Canada West championships, but her performance Saturday once again improved both the Spartans and her personal record.
Pole vaulter Madison Evans (Calgary) cleared 3.90m to also finish fifth.
In her final meet as a Spartan, fifth-year Emma Li (Markham, Ont.) cleared a personal record 3.80m to finish seventh in the pole vault competition.
In the 4x800m relay, the men's team finished sixth in 7:45.75, while in the 3000m, Caleb de Jong (Winnipeg) was seventh in 8:24.53.
