BROWN, GEORGE SET SPARTANS RECORDS AT UW INDOOR PREVIEW

BROWN, GEORGE SET SPARTANS RECORDS AT UW INDOOR PREVIEW

SEATTLE – Competing in his first ever meet as a Spartan, first-year Denzel Brown (Coquitlam, B.C.) broke the Trinity Western triple jump record with a mark of 14.15m to finish third at the University of Washington Indoor Preview Saturday at Dempsey Indoor. Meanwhile, on the track, fifth-year Nathan George (Coquitlam, B.C.) broke his own school record in the 600m, clocking a time of 1:19.11 to finish first overall.

The Spartans men's side saw a number of other strong early season results, led by James Linde (Coquitlam, B.C.), who posted a time of 6.94 in the 60m qualification heats before finishing ninth overall thanks to a time of 6.98 in the preliminaries.

While Brown set the new triple jump record, fellow first-year Aaron Postma (Abbotsford, B.C.) also eclipsed the old mark with a jump of 13.79m. The previous record was 13.42m, which was set by Eric Dupuis Feb. 12, 2012.

The previous 600m record was 1:20.64, which George set last year at Dempsey Indoor.

The day also saw Calum Innes (Bearsden, Scotland) make his return to the track in hurdles. While his time of 8.64 in the 60m hurdles was well off what fans of the Scottish star are used to, the meet marked the first time in nearly two years that Innes has ran competitively indoors. The last time he competed in the 60m hurdles was Mar. 13, 2015, when he won a U SPORTS silver medal with a TWU record-setting time of 7.89.

TWU is back on the track next weekend when a small contingent will travel to Edmonton for the University of Alberta's Golden Bear Open Jan. 20-21.
