CORVALLIS, Oregon – Trinity Western's men's soccer team dropped a 5-1 decision against Oregon State University (NCAA Div. I) Thursday night at Paul Lorenz Field.
The game marked the second time in their last three outings the Spartans have faced an NCAA Div. I opponent. TWU lost 4-0 to the University of Seattle earlier this week.
"I thought tonight was actually better than the last couple of games for us," said Spartans coach Mike Shearon. "I thought that that they made us pay for the little mistakes that we did make and we didn't capitalize on our chances. If we were a bit more ruthless in both boxes, I think the result would have been dramatically different. At the same time, we're not happy with the result, but we're building toward next week and the Canada West season. In the end, it's not a great result, but we'll continue to move forward."
The Spartans return to the pitch Saturday for their final preseason tilt at Seattle Pacific University at 1 p.m. (PT).
TWU opens its Canada West regular season schedule Aug. 25-26 against Victoria and UBC. The Spartans home-opening weekend is Sept. 1-2 when they host UNBC on back-to-back nights.
