THE WEEKEND STORY
• The Spartans (18-4-0-0) comes into the weekend after bettering its program-high for wins in a season last Saturday, earning its 18th victory of the year, with a 6-4 win over Selkirk at the Langley Events Centre.
• The win puts TWU four points up on the Selkirk Saints for first place in the BCIHL.
• The Spartans need one more win from their final three games to clinch top spot.
• The Spartans Dustin Deugau (Calgary, Alta) tallied another two assists in Saturday's win, making him 10th in league scoring and leads all defencemen in points, with three goals and 20 assists.
• TWU captain Kaleb Denham (Innisfail, Alta) scored his first goal of the season on Saturday night.
• TWU’s Evan Last (Surrey, B.C.) is third in the league for points, with 11 goals and 18 assists.
• The Vikes Jack Palmer is tied with Deugau for second in the league with 21 assists.
• Victoria has yet to beat TWU this season, with the Spartans outscoring the Vikes 22-8 in their three wins.
• TWU is 3-1 against VIU this year, including an 11-2 win in their last meeting (Nov. 25).
• The only time VIU has beat TWU was on Oct. 13 in Langley, when the Mariners won 2-1.
• After beating the Spartans to win the BCIHL championship last year, Victoria will miss the playoffs this season.
• The contest against the Mariners could be a preview of a first round playoffs matchup. If the playoffs started today, TWU and VIU would play in the first vs. fourth semifinal series.
