LANGLEY, B.C. – Trinity Western fifth-year goalie Silas Matthys (Wollerau, Switzerland) was named the BCIHL’s Goaltender of the Month for November, while first-year Brayden Brown (Calgary) was named the league’s Rookie of the Month.
TWU has now earned four of the first eight monthly honours, as blueliner Stefan Gonzales (Surrey, B.C.) was the Defenceman of the Month in October and forward Brandon Potomak (Aldergrove, B.C.) was the Rookie of the Month.
Goaltender of the Month - Silas Matthys, Trinity Western University
For the sixth time in his BCIHL career, the 25-year-old is the league's goaltender of the month. Matthys was lights out in November, going 5-0-0 as the Spartans went 6-1 to put a stranglehold on second place in the league standings. His unbeaten run included a 39-save performance in a 4-3 win over VIU Nov. 4. Overall, Matthys led all BCIHL starters with a 2.25 GAA and .921 save-percentage.
Rookie of the Month - Brayden Brown, Trinity Western University
The former Edmonton Oil Kings forward established himself as one of the deadliest snipers in the BCIHL, tallying 11 points, including eight goals, in seven games during November to lead all rookies. His 10 goals on the season has him tied for second overall in the BCIHL and his 17 points in 13 games only trails Selkirk veteran Dallas Calvin in the scoring race. The 20-year old Calgary Canucks alumnus was held off the scoresheet just twice during the month and had three multi-point outings.
