SPARTANS HOST VICTORIA ON SENIOR ATHLETE APPRECIATION NIGHT

LANGLEY, B.C. – The first-place Trinity Western's men's hockey team will host the Victoria Vikes Friday at the Langley Events Centre in the Spartans last regular season game. On Friday, the Spartans will honour their graduating seniors in a pregame ceremony.

THE WEEKEND STORY
• The Spartans (19-4-0-1) clinched first place in the BCIHL standings after earning a 2-0 win over Victoria Friday at the Ian Stewart Complex.
• On Saturday, TWU had its first overtime loss of their season against the VIU Mariners.
Silas Matthys (Wollerau, Switzerland) recorded his first shutout of the season Friday against Victoria. The victory was Matthys 50th career win as a Spartan, while the shutout put him in a tie with teammate Lucas Mills (Burnaby, B.C.) for second all-time in the BCIHL, with four career shutouts. The BCIHL career record for shutouts is five held by former SFU netminder Andrew Parent.
• TWU's Gary Mahesh (Vanderhoof, B.C.) scored his first goal as a Spartan Friday against the Vikes.
• Prior to Friday's game, the Spartans will honour graduating athletes Dirk de Waal (Lethbridge, Alta), Stefan Gonzales (Surrey, B.C.), Karsten Seidel (Delta, B.C.) and Silas Matthys (Wollerau).
• TWU's Evan Last (Surrey, B.C.) is third in the league for points, with 11 goals and 20 assists.
• The Vikes Jack Palmer (Victoria) is tied with TWU's Dustin Deugau (Calgary) in the league with 21 assists.
• Victoria has yet to beat TWU this season, with the Spartans outscoring the Vikes 25-8 in their four wins.
