SPARTANS HOST THOMPSON RIVERS ON SENIOR ATHLETE APPRECIATION WEEKEND

SPARTANS HOST THOMPSON RIVERS ON SENIOR ATHLETE APPRECIATION WEEKEND

LANGLEY, B.C. – The Trinity Western University men’s basketball team will host the Thompson Rivers University Wolfpack in its last two home games of the regular season this Friday and Saturday at the Langley Events Centre. On Friday, the Spartans will host their Bell Let’s Talk night, which is intended to help student-athletes continue their leadership role on campus in the fight to end the stigma around mental health. On Saturday, TWU will honuur its graduating seniors.

WEEKEND PREVIEW
Friday, Jan. 26 vs. Thompson Rivers (9-7) – 8 p.m. (PT)
Saturday, Jan. 27 vs. Thompson Rivers (9-7) – 7 p.m. (PT)

THE WEEKEND STORY
• The Spartans will look to get back into the win column after dropping both games in Saskatchewan this past weekend.
• Prior to Saturday night’s contest, TWU will honour graduating seniors Peter Spangehl (Surrey, B.C.) and Pogos Trunyan (Sacramento, Calif.).
• Fourth-year guard Vartan Tanielian (Surrey) will look to build off an impressive performance, which saw him put up 22 points and grab six rebounds in Saturday’s game against Saskatchewan.
• TWU will look to Trunyan to also help lead the offence as he has posted double-digit points in each of his last five games.
• TRU started the campaign with only three wins in their first 10 games. Since then, the WolfPack has won seven games in a row dating back to Nov. 25, 2017.
• Scoring has not been an issue for the WolfPack, as five players posted double-digit points in Saturday’s win against Fraser Valley.
• TRU enters the weekend sitting in a three-way tie, along with Regina and Victoria, for sixth place in the Canada West standings.
• The last time these two teams met was in 2013-14, when TRU beat the Spartans in back-to-back games.
