TWU RETURNS TO LANGLEY FOR TWO-GAME SET WITH REGINA

LANGLEY, British Columbia – After Trinity Western’s men’s basketball team opened the regular season with five of their first six games on the road, the Spartans are back at home for the last four games of the semester, starting with a two-game series this Friday and Saturday against Regina.

WEEKEND PREVIEW
Friday, Nov. 25 vs. Regina (2-2) – 7 p.m. (PT)
Saturday, Nov. 26 vs. Regina (2-2) – 8 p.m. (PT)

THE WEEKEND STORY
•    A split with Fraser Valley two weeks ago marked a huge step in the right direction for the men’s basketball program. However, after getting swept by UNBC last weekend, TWU is once again below .500 and in need of a bounce-back performance.
•    Patrick Vandervelden (Abbotsford, B.C.) is quickly becoming a dominant presence in the paint for TWU, as he now leads the Spartans with 11.8 points per game. Last Friday, he scored 20 points and grabbed nine rebounds.
•    TWU has four players averaging just over 11 points per game. Along with Vandervelden, Pogos Trunyan (Sacramento, Calif) has 11.7, Vartan Tanielian (Surrey, B.C.) has 11.5 and Tyus Allen (White Rock, B.C.) has 11.3.
•    Vandervelden leads TWU with 6.0 rebounds per game.
•    TWU is 10th in Canada West with 76.7 points per game, but has given up 83.5 points per game, which is tied for the most allowed in the conference.
•    Regina is first in FG attempts per game (71.3) and first in offensive rebounds (17.8), while TWU is third in FG attempts per game (68.8) and third in offensive rebounds (13.7).
•    Last year, TWU lost both games to Regina by an average of 29 points.
•    Alex Igual leads Regina in scoring with 16.3 points per game.
•    The last time TWU beat Regina was Feb. 1, 2014 when the Spartans won 67-59. No one from the Spartans current roster played in that game. Since then, TWU has lost four in a row against the Cougars.
