SPARTANS HOST BISONS IN FIRST HOME WEEKEND OF 2017

LANGLEY, British Columbia – Trinity Western’s men’s basketball team is back at home this weekend for the first time in 2017 as the Spartans host Manitoba Friday and Saturday at the Langley Events Centre.

WEEKEND PREVIEW
Friday, Jan. 20 vs. Manitoba (6-6) – 7 p.m. (PT)
Saturday, Jan. 21 vs. Manitoba (6-6) – 7 p.m. (PT)

THE WEEKEND STORY
•    The Spartans are coming off their closest loss of the season as they were step-for-step with Winnipeg last Saturday until the late stages, falling 84-80.
•    Manitoba is riding a tidy four-game winning streak, having swept a pair of local rivals, beating both Winning and Regina.
•    Despite the Bisons .500 record, Manitoba is currently fourth in Canada West in RPI (.6205). Once playoff berths are determined, the RPI, which accounts for the various strength of schedules faced by each team, determines playoff seeding.
•    Manitoba won both games against the Spartans last year. TWU lost the Friday night contest 101-67 before a bounce back effort saw the Spartans fall by just four points, 91-87, in Saturday’s game.
•    Pogos Trunyan leads TWU in scoring with 14.6 points per game.
•    The Spartans have five players averaging double digits in points.
•    Patrick Vandervelden leads TWU with 8.1 rebounds per game.
•    TWU leads the conference with 70.0 field goal attempts per game.
•    Manitoba has four players averaging double digits in points, led by Justus Alleyn, who is averaging 16.2 points per game.
•    Keith Omoerah leads Manitoba with 8.5 rebounds per game.
•    Manitoba is third in the conference in field goals made per game, with 30.2.
