Fall 2016 Player Development Academy
For more than 10 years the Trinity Western University Women’s Soccer team has been one of the premier soccer programs in Canada. Since 2012 the Spartan Academy has helped aspiring young female players with instruction and training that has enabled motivated players to be ready to compete at the University and College level. Many Spartan Academy graduates are currently playing for CIS programs or other post-secondary institutions across Canada. If you have a desire to take your game to the next level and to begin to see what it takes physically, mentally, and from a character perspective, to train in a University environment, then the Spartan Academy can help you to fulfill your soccer ambitions.
For Ages: 2002, 2003 and 2004 born girls. Metro level or higher. (evaluation required)
Dates: Sessions run on Monday evenings from 6 to 7:30 pm on the TWU Campus in Langley. Starting Monday Sept 12, running for 10 weeks (no session on Thanksgiving Monday)
Components of the Spartan Academy:
The fall sessions of the Spartan Academy will focus on player development, enhancing players in crucial elements of the game that include:
•Technical skill development, with emphasis on developing a strong “on the ball” comfort level
•Tactical development – helping players further understand their positional roles, as well as grow in team tactics awareness and understanding.
•Athletic development in areas like nutrition, speed and quickness, mental skill development, goal setting, and leadership development
•Small sided games emphasis to ensure players are spending maximum time on the ball
Coaching Staff for Spartan Academy:
The program will be led by Head Coach of TWU Women’s Soccer, Graham Roxburgh. Assistant Coach and Spartan alumni, Alicia Tesan will run sessions and assist coach Roxburgh. Throughout the ten sessions, coaching staff will include other members of the coaching staff from TWU Women’s soccer program, as well as current and former Spartan players.
One of the highlights for players is the opportunity to receive coaching and mentoring from current Spartans. Players will have regular interaction with Spartan coaches, players and support staff.
Cost for Fall Academy: $250
This fee includes: 10 sessions on field, season’s pass to Spartan home games,, opportunity to connect with whole Spartan team at a team training session, written assessment/ feedback upon completion of the 10 week program.
Kit Fee: $50, Includes training top and warm up jacket.
Note: Players must register for evaluation sessions on Sept 12, 2016. Upon successful evaluation, players will be accepted into the Spartan Academy program.
